Tendulkar is all praise for his 'Fab' teammates

NEW DELHI: Sachin Tendulkar says Anil Kumble is the greatest bowler he has played with, finds Rahul Dravid's technique and concentration excellent and VVS Laxman the most wristy, while Sourav Ganguly is one who figured out his game well.

Tendulkar, who has closely seen all the four who formed the Fab Five of the Indian team not long ago, elaborated on the the style and substance of the four players.

"From the manner in which Rahul and Sourav had batted in their debut Test match, it was quite evident that they were there to stay." Tendulkar said in a book titled 'SACH,' by Gautam Bhattacharya.

"Rahul's forte was excellent technique and he loved to occupy the crease for long hours. Rahul concentrated extremely well -- I mean, still concentrates very well. Sourav was somebody who figured out his game well enough. He knew which bowler to hit and which one to defend. Sourav liked scoring runs in boundaries. He was a boundary hitter.

"Laxman depended on hand-eye coordination. He was the most wristy player. And Kumble, of course, is the greatest bowler that I have ever played with. Apart from being a champion matchwinning bowler, his greatness lay in the fact that he would bowl the last delivery of the day with the same amount of fire irrespective of his performance during the day.

Tendulkar, who has been witness to the various contraptions that came into the game, feels, the computer has been the most important as it gives the opportunity to study the opposition. He, however, insists the electronic gadget cannot substitute the "skills" of a player.

"Your performance is the biggest indicator that skill can march well ahead of the laptop! The computer does play an important role in today's cricket. You forget so many things. With the computer you can store them. For me the biggest advantage is you can study the opposition. The computer helps and provides you with that vital two to three per cent difference. As far as I am concerned it is not overrated."

Only for the Master Blaster!

While cricket fanatics hope and pray that Sachin Tendulkar's steller performance will catapult India to bring home the coveted World Cup; something that hasn't happened after Kapil Dev brought it home to us in 1983; there are those who are already planning parties in honour of the cricket legend.

TOI has learnt from reliable sources that Suniel Shetty, who will be anchoring the World Cup matches on a news channel is set to throw a gala private bash in the honour of Sachin. Highly placed sources in the cricket circuit of Mumbai reveal to us saying, "Suniel and Sachin share a good rapport and since this is going to be the last cup that the 37-year-old superstar of cricket will play in, Suniel wanted to do something special to commemorate this landmark year in cricket and for Sachin."

The top informer close to the Mumbai team also reveals, "Dates are being chalked out when this party will take place. While some feel that this should happen before Sachin takes the field as it would mark a grand welcome for him, others feel that it should be post the World Cup as everybody expects India to win and Sachin to shine."

Suniel tells TOI, "It is true that I have been approached by several channels to anchor the World Cup and I shall do it too. About the party, Sachin is like God and I'm a die-hard fan. A celebration is certainly due, but it is too early to talk about it."

Sachin Tendulkar bags three Castrol Awards

Indian batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar swept away the Castrol Awards for Cricketing Excellence on Friday evening.
Bagging three awards at the Castrol Awards 2011, Sachin Tendulkar reiterated his dream to win a World Cup.
“Still I want to achieve something and everyone is aware of my desire, the legendary batsman said.
Sachin Tendulkar received Indian Cricketer of the Year Award, Test Cricketer of the Year Award and a special award for completing fifty of Test centuries.
The iconic Indian batsman also lashed out at critics, who are still not considering Team India favourite for the World Cup.
He lashed out at critics, who raised doubt over team’s capability to retain the numero uno position in the ICC Test rankings.
“India is still No.1 and it proves our capability. When we achieved the top ranking in the Test cricket, people thought that we lose the position within 30-40 days. But after year and more, India is still at top.”
Tendulkar said, “At a time of tough completion, the achievement is marvelous.”
He also shored praise on coach Garry Kirsten.
Indian cricket skipper MS Dhoni was named ODI Cricketer of the Year, Harbhajan Singh Best Bowler of the Year and Jaidev Unadkat bagged Best Junior Cricketer of the Year.
Rahul Dravid was honoured for taking 200 Test catches while Yusuf Pathan won Impact Player of the Year award.

Sachin Ready for the World cup - Dhoni

Sachin Tendulkar’s mere presence in the dressing room is enough to lift the morale of the players, feels India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
Dhoni also urged the other players in the team to perform and take the pressure off the champion batsman.
“When Sachin is with the team, the morale of the players is very high. But it is not right to put pressure on him. All the players should perform and take the pressure off him,” said Dhoni.
The India skipper reiterated that the team would like to win the forthcoming World Cup for Tendulkar, who will, in all probability, be playing for the last time in cricket’s biggest event.
“Team India wants to give (this) World Cup to Sachin as a gift,” he said during the inauguration of the T20 Jharkhand Premier League (JPL) here today.
In a lighter vein, Dhoni said that he wants the 37-year-old Tendulkar to play in a few more World Cups.
“God willing, Sachin can play in another three or four World Cups. If it happens the whole team will be happy,” he said.
Asked about the team’s preparations for the mega event, he said, “the team is ready for the World Cup, focusing on fitness and fielding.”
Dhoni also recollected the historic moment when Tendulkar notched up his 50th Test century.
“It was a treat to watch him standing from the other end,” he said.
On Eden Gardens missing out on the India-England tie, he said he would miss the crowd and the atmosphere there.

Sachin Tendulkar will play 3-4 more World Cups: Dhoni

Several cricket pundits believe that Indian batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar is appearing in his last ICC cricket World Cup this year.

Though, Indian cricket Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni differs the experts opinion as far as Tendulkar’s World Cup appearance is concerned.

Sachin Tendulkar, who is set to equal the record of Javed Miandad’s Most World Cup appearance, will play 3-4 more quadrilateral extravaganza in his career, feels Dhoni.

Indian skipper, who is visiting his home town Ranchi before the World Cup, said that Tendulkar will play 3-4 more World Cups in his career.

A confident Dhoni, however, said that fielding is major area of concern for the team. “There is certain need to improve the fielding during the World Cup.”

However, millions of die heard fans of iconic batsman want him to play cricket forever. In India, it is like a crime if you think the master blaster will have to hang his boots one day. Despite of this, truth is bitter and everyone has to accept it with heavy hearts that Tendulkar will retire one day after ruling the World Cricket for many years.

At the same time, no one can deny that Tendulkar is enjoying his golden form. In the last calendar year, he silenced all the critics with his bat. He surprised everyone when he scored double hundred in ODI and fifty centuries in Test cricket.

Tendulkar’s present form also justifies Dhoni’s claim. He has still hunger for runs after spending two decades in the game.

Let hope, Sachin Tendulkar’s unfulfilled dream (World Cup title) may come true in the Cricket World Cup 2011, to be held in sub-continent from February.

India is favourite for the coveted trophy but they will have two overcome the pressure of playing under home crowd.

Sachin, Yuvraj meet BCCI to seek clarifications

Top Indian cricketers including Sachin Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh are meeting BCCI officials today in Mumbai to ask for some clarifications regarding the World Cup and the IPL.

The players are worried about the ambush marketing clauses of the World Cup whereby the official sponsors of the event are protected against their rivals. For example MS Dhoni has a deal with Aircel while Reliance is an official World Cup sponsor.

India's top cricketers are also worried about IPL sponsors with many of them having to endorse brands because of their teams. So for example Tendulkar has to endorse Zandu Balm since it's a Mumbai Indians sponsor but not his personal sponsor. thanks NDTV

He attended the MRF Pace Foundation during his schooldays to train as a fast bowler, but Australian fast bowler Dennis Lillee, who saw him training, was not much impressed and suggested that Tendulkar should focus on his batting instead. Would like to win Cup for Sachin and country, says Virat

Talented batsman Virat Kohli feels that it would be the best gift to Sachin Tendulkar if the Indian team can win the cricket World Cup which will start in another two weeks time.

"What he (Sachin) has achieved in his entire career, I don't think anyone else will be able to achieve that. So it will be a great thing if we can win the World Cup not only for our fans but also for Sachin who is a special person," the youngster commented during an interaction with the media at a promotional event here on Thursday.

That he is confident can be gauged from the fact that he felt that he could have pulled off the ODI against South Africa in Port Elizabeth where he was unbeaten on 87 as India lost due to Duckworth-Lewis method.

"I don't know but whenever I played under lights, I felt even more confident. I play well under lights. I was talking to Harbhajan Singh during our partnership I felt I could have pulled it off."

Although his captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is sceptical about the use of Umpires' Decision Review System (UDRS), Kohli said it hardly makes any difference.

"I don't think too much about these things. All I know is that if opposition has three referrals, it's same for us."

Sachin-Viru's stay in first 15 overs will be key: Harbhajan

Strong starts by the opening duo of Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag would be key to India's success at the forthcoming World Cup, off-spinner Harbhajan Singh said on Wednesday.

The feisty 30-year-old off-spinner said the feat of the 1983 World Cup, when Kapil Dev and Co stunned one and all by lifting the coveted trophy, inspires him a lot.

"I am always reminded of the 1983 World Cup, have seen the clippings so many times. This time around, if  Sachin and Sehwag stay together at the crease for the first 15 overs, it would be very difficult for the opposition to come back into the match," Harbhajan told reporters.

Harbhajan's bonding with Tendulkar is well documented and the 'turbanator' is hoping that the Mubaikar continues his hugely successful pairing with the Delhi dazzler in the quadrennial extravaganza, starting February 19 in Bangladesh.

"Both Sachin and Sehwag are great cricketers and I hope they help us win the World Cup. Like all Indians, I am also looking forward to a good show in the World Cup," He said.

The off-spinner was in the Capital to support a campaign against rode rage and drunken driving but refused to endorse those who tried to draw a parallel between rode rage and sledging in cricket.

"Sledging is part and parcel of the game. It just adds a bit of momentum to the game and, as a cricketer, we don't carry anything off the field. Road rage is quite harmful and it hurts you for life long," he said.

To the surprise of quite a few, Harbhajan also said that neither he nor does Team India drink.

Asked about Andrew Symonds, one of the protagonists of the infamous 'Monkey-gate' and with whom he will be sharing the Mumbai Indians dressing room in the fourth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Harbhajan gave the impression that the hatchet has been buried.

"I am looking forward to winning the IPL along with him," Harbhajan said.

Symonds and troubles often go hand in hand and asked about the burly Australian's conduct off the field that had an impact on his professional career, Harbhajan was guarded.

"What Symonds has done with his career is his personal choice and I don't want to talk about any individuals," was the offie's reply when a journo asked him about Symonds, probably keeping in mind the occasion.

Talking about road rage, Harbhajan felt that it needs to be tackled as soon as possible.

"A lot of people in Punjab get involve in road rage and it is very dangerous," he said
